Foods to avoid during treatment

Foods to avoid during treatment

There are certain foods that you should avoid during treatment to lessen the likely hood of breakages and oral cavities...

It is important to take these guidelines into consideration upon commencing Orthodontic treatment, to ensure your smile stays beautiful for the day your braces are taken off.

We recommend you avoid hard, sticky, or crunchy foods as they can pull brackets off teeth. It is also crucial to reduce the amount of sugar in your diet as it can build up around your brackets and cause cavities!

We ask you to steer clear of:

Hard Foods including:

  • Hard crusty bread;
  • Whole apples;
  • Boney meat;
  • Raw carrots;
  • Ice cubes;
  • Sticky and hard-boiled lollies;
  • Toffee.

It is also important that you do not:

  • Chew your pen;
  • Bite your nails;
  • Open water bottles with your teeth;
  • Drink large amounts of Soft Drinks (including diet soft-drinks).

Excessive amounts of sugary and acidic foods and drinks can increase the chances of tooth decay (holes) and permanent white or brown marks developing on the teeth

Contact us if you need more advice on what foods to avoid or have a concern with your braces that we can rectify for you.
